The recent tragedy where a toddler was beaten by a rodent in Alex was cited as a perfect example where access to quality health care is still a struggle for the needy and poor. This was said during a panel debate hosted by the Soul City Institute and their partners in civil society movement; Black Sash, Human Rights Commission and Health Systems Trust. The debate looked into how social determinants of health such as water, sanitation, education and jobs contribute to a healthier society.
THE National Department of Health is making some inroads into providing universal primary health care, but there is still lots of work to do.
