Social mobilisers (x3) – KZN iLembe (Mandeni, Ndwendwe & KwaDukuza) – Fixed term assignment (reporting to Programmes Officer)

To assist and/or support the programme officer to implement the NDOH and SCI programme strategy at district and provincial level to achieve the set youth programme objectives, which includes coordinating and supporting the implementation and monitoring of HAST youth-related project plans and Soul Buddyz Clubs in relevant districts.

Key responsibilities

Demand creation

  • Support the HAST/MCWH/HP team in educating youth on SRH, HIV prevention, and gender-based violence prevention.
  • Mobilise youth via calendar events offering HIV testing, PrEP, and other SRH services.
  • Generate demand through platforms like radio shows, community events, and outreach.
  • Deliver health talks and run community dialogues in selected health facilities.
  • Continuously distribute IEC materials to young people.
  • Assist the district DOE with the rollout of Soul Buddyz Clubs.

Co-ordination and monitoring of projects

Soul Buddyz Clubs

  • Lead the recruitment and registration of Soul Buddyz Clubs.
  • Conduct Raising Voices coalition advocacy with local/provincial government.
  • Collect attendance and registration data from clubs.
  • Distribute relevant tools and resources.
  • Ensure clubs meet weekly and submit attendance reports.
  • Plan monthly/quarterly activities with the programme officer.
  • Hold in-person and remote coaching sessions twice a month.
  • Document all coaching and club activities.
  • Identify issues causing low participation and implement solutions.
  • Monitor attendance and increase visibility on social media.
  • Submit monthly progress reports.

Youth Zones / AYFS

  • Work with the programme officer to support AYFS Champions using standard tools.
  • Track referrals, screenings, and PrEP initiation in target facilities.
  • Organise youth campaign events quarterly, following the NDoH calendar.
  • Ensure accurate data collection aligned with Soul City and DoH M&E standards.
  • Compile data and produce reports using the agreed templates.
  • Capture audio and visual content for the communications team.
  • Report monthly to supervisors.

Stakeholder management

  • Identify key stakeholders to support club outcomes.
  • Engage local networks to back and promote club activities.
  • Coordinate meetings between clubs and key local influencers.

General

  • Complete reports in the required formats as needed.
  • Work closely with the programme officer to integrate club efforts into broader projects.
  • Seek creative and impactful approaches to programme delivery.
  • Monitor participation levels and take action to reduce dropout rates.

Qualifications and experience

  • Matric qualification required; post-matric advantageous.
  • Experience and knowledge of gender, children, and young women’s issues is essential.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in community development or activism.
  • Understanding of and passion for advocacy and gender equality.
