Mr Ashraf Mahomed

Ashraf Mahomed has vast experience, expertise and skills as a legal practitioner in South Africa for more than 25 years. He specialises in High Court and Magistrate’s Court litigation, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, ADR and Land Reform. He is a qualified mediator and arbitrator and regularly lectures to students on issues of human rights law. He previously served as President of the Cape Law Society (a statutory body) for two terms and is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at the University of Cape Town, the Chairperson of the Heritage Appeal Board appointed by the Minister for Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape and a member of the Valuation Appeal Board of the City of Cape Town. He was appointed as an Acting Judge of the Western Cape High Court for two terms and regularly presides over hearings of statutory bodies and labour dispute cases. He is currently a board member of the Dullah Omar Institute for Constitutional Law, Governance and Human Rights and is a longstanding member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL). He is the principle author of Land Tenure Law published by Juta Publications.
